Consider Joining the International Association of Museum Facilities Administrators (IAMFA)

IAMFAThis past year, IPI’s Senior Preservation Environment Specialist, Jeremy Linden, joined the International Association of Museum Facility Administrators (IAMFA), a nonprofit organization for facility and security administrators in archives, libraries, museums and other cultural institutions. IAMFA members are focused on developing and achieving standards of excellence in the sustainable design, construction, operation and maintenance of world-class cultural facilities.

Jeremy attended the 23rd Annual IAMFA Conference in Washington, DC in October. The conference included a wide range of educational programs along with tours of several area institutions including the Baltimore Museum of Art, the National Museum of the American Indian, the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum, and the Folger Shakespeare Library.

IAMFA, which began in 1990, is currently implementing its 2014-2019 Strategic Plan. Their vision is “to be the most prominent and regarded Association worldwide representing facilities management at cultural institutions.” Their mission is “to serve members of cultural institutions through advancement of the facilities management and administration profession. Through quality educational programs, networking, and meaningful partnerships with suppliers of products, services and specialized expertise, IAMFA strives to improve the profession.” One important goal for 2014 is to increase membership and outreach.
